Printer Compatibility

If your printer has an incompatible version of B9Captivate Plugin, you may not be able to see or open B9Captivate Plugin. Installing the compatible version of B9Captivate Plugin will fix these issues.

Troubleshooting 

I recently updated my printer firmware, and now I can't tap B9Captivate in the Settings > Plugins menu.

B9Captivate Plugin 3.0.1 is not compatible with your printer firmware. Update to a compatible version of B9Captivate Plugin.

I recently updated my printer firmware, and now the B9Captivate Plugin says “No seats remaining”. 

Please contact support@b9c.com and inform us that your B9Captivate Plugin license is invalid after a firmware update. 

This issue may arise if you update your firmware while your printer is not connected to the Internet. To prevent this from happening on future firmware updates, make sure your printer is connected to the Internet before updating your firmware.

  • 5 Series Firmware 96.4.0

New Features

  • With Limited Network Licensing, your printer never needs an Internet connection. Instead, annually transfer a license file to the offline printer via flash drive. 
  • Compatibility with 5 Series Firmware 96.4.0

This issue may arise if you update your firmware while your printer is not connected to the Internet. To prevent this from happening on future firmware updates, make sure your printer is connected to the Internet before updating your firmware.

After installing B9Captivate Plugin 3.0.0, I don't see B9Captivate in the Settings > Plugins menu. 

B9Captivate Plugin 3.0.0 is only compatible with the firmware versions listed above. If you update your printer to a compatible firmware, B9Captivate Plugin will reappear.

After installing B9Captivate Plugin 2.3.1, I don't see my materials. 

B9Captivate Plugin 2.3.1 is only compatible with the firmware versions listed above. If you update your printer to a compatible firmware, all of your B9Captivate materials will reappear.

Other known issues when running B9Captivate Plugin 2.3.1 on an incompatible firmware:

  • On the Settings > Plugins menu, you can’t tap the B9Captivate Plugin to open its licensing screen. 
  • b9matd files on your flash drive don't appear on the printer’s USB Transfer menu. 
  • Clicking the Install button in B9Captivate Desktop to upload a material changes the button to “Installing...”, but it never finishes.

B9CaptivatePlugin_2.2.0.b9plugin fails to install.

Compatibility 

To install B9Captivate Plugin 2.1.3, your printer firmware version must be at least 96.1.3 and less than 96.2.0.

Before you install B9Captivate Plugin 2.1.3, make sure that you are connected to the Internet. After installation, B9Captivate Plugin 2.1.3 will not be useable until you establish an Internet connection to validate your license. 

New Features

  • You can use the B9Captivate Plugin for up to a week without being connected to the Internet.
  • With Private Network Licensing, a local licensing server runs on your private network. The B9Captivate Plugin connects to the local server and never needs an Internet connection. 
  • Tapping the Previous License Keys key icon allows you to re-register any license key that was previously registered by the plugin. 
  • Licensing stability has been improved.
  • Licensing error messages are more specific, making troubleshooting easier if your license is invalid. 

How to Update Your Firmware 

Before updating, it is strongly recommended that you connect your printer to the Internet, and that you use Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi.

  1. Plug your Ethernet cable into the back of your printer. 
  2. Use the printer’s menu to navigate to Settings > Network
  3. If the Ethernet checkbox is not already checked, tap to check the box. 

Then insert a USB drive with b9-core-5_96.0.0.mender and install the firmware update. You may also be able to update through the Settings > Updates menu on your printer, if Firmware 96.0.0 has been made available as an update to your printer.

Troubleshooting 

B9CaptivatePlugin_2.1.3.b9plugin does not show up on my printer’s USB Transfer menu. 

Your printer must have Firmware 96.1.3 or greater in order to install B9Captivate Plugin 2.1.3. Please contact support@b9c.com and inform us you cannot see .b9plugin files on your printer.

B9CaptivatePlugin_2.1.3.b9plugin fails to install.

The B9Captivate Plugin needs the Internet to check that your license is valid each week. Connect your printer to the Internet and tap the Refresh button in the B9Captivate Plugin.

Troubleshooting

The plugin says “Invalid License”, but my license should be valid. 

If you recently updated your printer firmware: 

Please contact support@b9c.com and inform us that your B9Captivate Plugin license is invalid after a firmware update. To permanently fix this issue, update your printer to Firmware 96.1.3 and install B9Captivate Plugin 2.1.3

If you did not recently update your printer firmware: 

B9Captivate Plugin 1.2.4 improves the stability of the licensing, but you still may occasionally encounter an “Invalid License” message when your license is actually valid. When this happens, it is usually right after the printer is rebooted. 

To permanently fix these occasional license issues, update your printer to Firmware 96.1.3 and install B9Captivate Plugin 2.1.3

To temporarily work around the “Invalid License” message: 

  1. Connect your printer to the Internet.
  2. Reboot the printer. 
  3. In the Settings > Network menu, wait for your printer to say it is connected. This could take up to two minutes. 
  4. Once your printer says it is connected to the Internet, wait an additional three minutes.
  5. In the Settings > Plugins menu, tap B9Captivate to open it. 
  6. Tap the Refresh button until your license becomes valid. This could take up to five taps.

The plugin already has a license key, and it won’t let me register a different license key. 

If your current license key is valid, you must uninstall the B9Captivate Plugin in order to switch to a different license key. To permanently fix this issue, update your printer to Firmware 96.1.3 and install B9Captivate Plugin 2.1.3

Compatibility

  • B9Captivate Plugin 1.2.1 is the last B9Captivate Plugin update to have a .fw file. Going forward, all future updates will be .b9plugin files and will only be available for printers running Firmware 96.1.3 or greater. 
  • B9 Captivate Plugin 1.2.1 does not support the following material properties. If you set these properties in B9Captivate Desktop, they will have no effect on the print. 
    • Foundation XY Trim - Enterprise Only 
    • Initial XY Trim - Enterprise Only
