    Additive manufacturing (AM) or 3D printing technology is impacting how orthopedic surgeries are planned and executed. 3D printers are becoming smaller, more affordable, and more accessible, and free access to open source 3D imaging software has made clinical implementation widely feasible.

    Over the past decade AM advancements have improved how orthopedic surgeons can approach both common and complex cases. Advanced imaging studies can help to create musculoskeletal models to create custom orthopedic guides and instruments.
