Olimex 

• Different display. 

• There is a black border on imx8 displays not on Olimex displays 

• The display is brighter. The orange is brighter, and the menu options and backgrounds are gray instead of black. 

 

• The licensing change captivate plugin will work. 

• Only can be updated with “.FW” firmware files. 

• Support stopped with FW 89. Any FW files after this point are only material changes. 

• Power Supply is Different from IMX8 

IMX8 without mender 

• Uses IMX8 Display.  

• Has a black border at the bottom, and sometimes top, of the screen Window.  

• Display is darker with buttons and menu backgrounds being much closer to black. 

 

• Captivate will not work at all once it is on the new licensing system. 

• Only can be updated with “.FW” firmware files. 

• Support stopped with FW 89. Any FW files after this point are only material changes. 

• If any non-4Gb IMX8 SOMs exist in the wild, they would be in this category. BUT there should not be any period. 

• Might have glass or acrylic calibration settings. 

IMX8 with mender 

• Can update with “.mender” files. 

• If updated, there is an Artifact number in machine info. 93 or later. 

• If updated, there is an update section in settings. 93 or later. 

• If not on version 93 or later. Please help the user get updated!!!!! 

• The earliest possible firmware that could be mender compatible is 89, but the overlap means this information isn’t valuable on its own. 

• Uses IMX8 Display.  

• Has a black border at the bottom, and sometimes top, of the screen Window.

How to tell if a printer can still be supported without being shipped back to B9 Creations. 

• Neither Olimex printers or IMX8 without mender printers can be supported by future updates. 

• IMX8 without mender printers can’t support Captivate. 

• If the printer can see a “.Mender” file on a USB stick. It is supported. 

• If the printer has an “Update” section inside the settings menu. It is supported. 

• If the printer is below firmware version 89. It does not have mender and is not supported. 

• If the printer is 89 or above and below 93. It is not supported unless it can install “.Mender” version 93. 

If there is ever the need to tell between an IMX8 without mender, and an Olimex. 

• Check the screen it is the only way.
